Lady Claire Radcliffe also called the Pale Lady or in some circles the Dark Lady, is the Nightmistress in command of Sanguinar and the planar settlement of WrathGate. WrathGate was founded when Claire, at the time a slayer for the Parliament of Concordance, saw that there were those beings who wanted to avoid conflict and live in peace despite their alignment or reputation. Against the Parliament’s will she founded a planar town to act as a haven for these beings. Her magic is said to hold the borders and prevent those not invited from entering.  Claire projects a stern and emotionless personality. Even those considered allies by the Pale Lady are wary of her anger and she is said to fear nothing. She holds a grudge against the Dragon Queen Aliyeah Dayspring for “stealing” Devon from her favored Lieutenant, Selene Blacklotus, going so far as to challenge The Dragon Queen to combat when Devon was nearly killed protecting the gold dragon Cam Sorayan. Claire refers to Devon as her “child” a term of affection she bestows on those she favors. Her attitude toward Devon is often motherly but can also be stern at times. Devon shows her the utmost deference. She has grown to like Jareth a great deal and has a friendly if not businesslike approach toward Stallac. She is dismissive of Gunther although she really harbors him no ill will. Claire was born with the Sanguinari gift of celerity. She has the ability to move twice as fast as haste spell. Her normal movement is tripled and she can jump greater distances than any normal person. She is considerably stronger than most Sanguinari and can fall great distances with no fear of injury. Her fast metabolism helps her heal at an accelerated rate and renders her immune to  toxins and poisons. She simply burns through them. She also is a master of Sanguinari Blood Magic. She can perform various arcane feats using her blood or the blood of another. In one such instance, when Devon was shot by an arrow of dragon slaying Claire was able to remove nearly all the “taint” of the Dragon Queen’s blood from his as well as all memory of and power granted by the Dragon Queen. Unexpectedly though Devon’s love for Aliyeah proved more powerful than the blood rite performed. When he saw Aliyeah in danger of being killed in a coup attempt, his love, (Which she refers to as the old magic) of her triggered a metamorphosis in his blood and heart renewing it with Aliyeah’s gift, the heart of a dragon, restoring his memories and granted Draconic Powers. Claire is also able to mix a small quantity of her blood with that of another allowing them to access entry into Sanguinar while the borders are closed. She uses similar magic to grant those she deems worthy special access to Wrathgate. Those so affected are considered “blooded” and it is against her law for a Sanguinari to harm them. Location of entry varies on how much power she imbues in the transfer. Devon is able to plane shift directly to Radcliffe Manor while others may only be able to access the black gate.
