This occurred some days after the dragons were freed from Stygia…

Stallac emptied the contents of his portable hole on the floor of the sitting room of the hunting lodge they occupied in the Beastlands. He sifted through all the gold and gems dividing the treasure equally among his allies. The group separated all the items and Devon determined which were magical. The mage identified the enchantments on each as his comrades all selected whatever they felt could be useful to them.

“If no one wants these arrows…” Gunther asked.

“Since when do you shoot a bow?” Jarath questioned.

“Just because I don’t doesn’t mean I can’t. I may want to use one in the future and they could come in handy.”

“Ok. Sure take them.” Devon said.

“Hey rogue guy. I’ll assume you want the poison?”

“Ha… Ha.” Devon replied sarcastically. “Well yeah… but not that one. That one we destroy.” He said pointing to a vial containing a blood red liquid.

“Hey… why don’t we put these weapons nobody wants into the armory for safe keeping. Except for those sickles. Sell that crap.” Jarath suggested. “Unless Gunther wants a sickle too?”

“I might.” The barbarian grinned.

Everyone should take a green steel longsword and a suit of this armor. They’ll make fine decorations in our trophy rooms.”Jarath added.

The potion bottles were collected and placed in a glass case in the parlor.

“How about this other stuff?” Stallac asked. “Anyone want this statue of a puking gnome?”

“Eww” Jarath said, making a face.

“You should put it in the Gardens of Opulent Splendor near your favorite gazebo.” The warrior suggested.

“Not a chance. Sell it.” He replied.

“Hey Highlord. What the hells are these?” Stallac asked while holding two ivory coins in his palm.”

Devon took one from his hand. “They look like challenge coins from the court of Tiamat.”

“No kidding?” Jarath replied. Anyone care if I take one?”

“Nope. I don’t want it.” Gunther said disinterested.

“Na. Me either.” Stallac agreed. “Here ya go.”

“Excellent. Then I’ll just keep this one.” Devon said pocketing the coin he had examined.

“You might as well take this chess set too. Though you may want to have a new queen carved for it.” Jarath offered. The white and black marble pieces of the set represented a contest of dragonborn against dragonspawn with Tiamat serving as the black queen and an unflattering effeminate version of Bahamut set as the white queen.

“Yeah I see what you mean.

“What the hells is this?” Stallac asked, holding up a petrified pixie.

“Looks like a fine paper weight.” Gunther joked.

“Wow. You guys are awful. What kind of heroes are you?” Devon chided them.

“Well what would you do with it?” Stallac asked.

“Put it here.” Devon said motioning to a coffee table.

Devon whispered some arcane words while bending and flicking his fingers. The pixie began to shake as it took on an amber glow. Stone became flesh and the pixie blinked her eyes as her wings began to flutter.

“What…What…The devils!”

“You’re safe my lady.” Devon said calmly. “You’re free.”

“Who saved me?” She asked, as her eyes grew big with gratitude. “Was it you?” She asked, staring at the mage.

Devon gave his head a slight shake as his friends all pointed at him and answered at once. ”Yeah it was him.”

“It was nothing my lady. I can return you to your people if you’d like.”

“Nothing?!” She gasped wide eyed. “You saved my life! You must be a very powerful wizard to possess such magic. What do they call you?”

“My name is Devon, little one.”

“They may call you Devon,” She said, drawing a pin sharp blade. “but from this day until your last day I shall call you my king.” She said, taking a knee and bowing. “My name is Tandy Rainsage my liege and I am your loyal servant.”

“No. No. Devon said, shaking his head. I’m no king.”

“Too late. It’s already done. I already pledged the loyalty. I wish you had said something sooner…” The pixie smiled. ‘Not a king though huh?”

“Well he is the Highlord.” Stallac offered.

“Is that a title?” She asked, confused.

“Yes. Yes.” Stallac explained with a grin. “A title of great eminence and stature.”  He’s also consort to a queen so that’s kind of like being a king.” He smirked mischievously.

Devon glared at him.

“Highlord then” She bowed. “<I am yours.>” She offered in the language of sylvan creatures.

“<My lady. Please. You need not pledge yourself to me. Would you not rather rejoin your kin?”>

“<You speak the tongue of the Fey?! Truly I am meant to serve you.>” Her wings flicked rapidly and she rose into the air. “<Command me my lord.>”

Jarath laughed rather loudly. “Just when you think you can’t get in any more trouble.”

“Trouble?” The pixie drew her bow and nocked an arrow. “Who would dare threaten my lord?” She aimed her bow at the priest. “Not you I hope.” She menaced.

“No Tandy. He’s not… He’s just being a smart ass. The truth though is I am consort to a queen and she is a gold dragon. In fact I live among dragons much of the time and I’m not sure how they will react to a pixie about the palace. It could be dangerous for you.”

“I do not fear any danger.” She said defiantly. “Dragons you say…as in more than one?”

“Indeed. A whole realm of them. And not all are as good natured as my queen, though they manage to live in relative harmony. If you were to accompany me there you’d have to tread lightly and avoid mischief. I’m of the mind it would be safer for you to remain here. In fact there are sylvan creatures who make this place their home. Perhaps you might consider joining them?”

“Where are we?” She asked.

“The Beastlands. My comrades and I reside at the lodge here, at least some of the time.”

“That will not do my lord. How am I to protect you from so far away. I can stay hidden and I swear I will not cause you mischief.”

Devon grinned. “I’m truly honored, my lady. Just know, dragons do not need to see with their eyes to know you are around. How about this? I’ll take you with me and introduce you to my queen and personal guard. Then if you truly wish to serve I’ll need you to learn to split time between the dragon realm and this place. You’ll spend some time here attending to my affairs and securing my haven while other times you’ll accompany me to court.”

“Fair enough my lord.”

“And you’ll need to understand that there are places I will not be able to take you safely, like when I travel the lower planes or when I visit my homeland. The Vampyr of Sanguinar will not take kindly to your presence.”

The pixie paused in thought for a moment. “That’s ok. I’ve had my fill of Baator and the laws of that town a tad too harsh for my liking. Agreed.”

“You’re really going to keep it?” Stallac laughed.

“It?!” Tandy glowered.

“Ignore him Tandy. He can be a bit of an oaf sometimes.”

“Very well my lord. But I don’t think I like him.”

“That’s ok. We don’t either half the time.” Gunther grinned.

“Well she’ll get along great with Maya then.” Jarath added.

“Who’s Maya?” She asked.

“My most trusted cohort, a black dragon.”

“A what?”

“Like I said. I spend a lot of time with dragons.”

She smirked with mischief. “This is going to be fun.”

Devon shook his head. Somehow I doubt it.”
